CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT HOLIDAY TRADITIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

COLUMBIA, SC– Celebrate winter holidays around the world at EdVenture’s annual Festivals of Sharing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, December 17. Children will learn the values of the Season of Giving by celebrating their own and others’ holiday traditions. Throughout the day, explore the festivities from around the world through performances, hands-on activities and story time.

Countries represented will be Mexico, Italy, Samoa, Thailand, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Peru and India. Performances and presentations, including a fashion show presented by Miss Columbia Latina Project, will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Guests can make Swedish Advent wreath hats all day. Activities for children include visiting with cultural representatives from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,  Throughout the day, explore the festivities of Hanukkah, Diwali, Festival of St. Lucia and many more hands-on activities, including St. Nicholas reading holiday stories from different cultures at noon.

The Gingerbread Jamboree activity favorites continue with Mr. and Mrs. Claus visiting the children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., graham cracker gingerbread house cooking classes at 10 a.m., noon and 2:30 p.m., Flash Flurries science activity starting at 10 a.m., every 45 minutes, until 4 p.m. Gingie the Gingerbread Man costumed character will be making appearances throughout the day. Guests will be able to make LED holiday cards and paper inspiration chains for patients at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital at Richland Memorial from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Festivals of Sharing is free with membership or regular admission.
