Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Wilfredo León settled in Greenville in 1985, starting the first Spanish Newspaper in South Carolina, Latino Newspaper, and has been a community activist ever since. He has served the community as member and President of the Rotary Club of Mauldin, member of the Commission for Minority Affairs’ Task Force on Issues Affecting Latinos in SC, Founder and President of the Hispanic Coalition, founder and member of the Hispanic Leadership Council, and Founder and Chair of the Board of the Foothills Minority Supplier Development Council. Wilfredo currently serves as a Board Member for Hispanic Alliance. He is married to Diana, and has four children and six grandchildren.
This year alone, Wilfredo has led efforts to house and relocate over 100 Puerto Rican workers left stranded in Greenville, and is currently supporting the hurricane relief efforts in his island home as part of a community-based group of Puerto Ricans in the Upstate. Wherever there is a need, he is often first on the scene, offering experience and servant leadership.
